The main difference between conventional foam and PFM Memory Foam lies in the PFM Memory Foam's unique structure. Below is a representation of the cross sectional cellular structures of conventional foam and PFM Memory Foam. Immediately the physical differences are apparent:

Conventional Foam

PFM Memory Foam

Conventional foam, which is most commonly used as padding, has a low density closed cell structure. Conceptually, it's like millions of tiny ballons packed tightly with very little space separating each one.

PFM Memory Foam, which is used to construct the Palm Swell, utilizes a high density open cell structure. Conceptually, it's like billions of balloons with valves to their neighbors to allow air to distribute.
